Prehistoric Animals ... Introduction ... Animals now and then
To most people, prehistoric animals begin and end with the dinosaurs. We are used to seeing terrifying reconstructions of Jurassic predators (1), and painstaking assemblies of fossil bones (2).

While the dinosaurs ruled the land, the skies were filled with flying reptiles (3), and mosasaurs and ichthyosaurs hunted in the oceans.

After the dinosaurs died out, giant mammals walked the Earth. From huge ground sloths (4) to saber toothed cats, from giant camels to strange relatives of the rhinoceros. In this volume, you'll find out about the exciting world of prehistoric animals, and perhaps for the first time you'll learn that dinosaurs are just a part of the big picture, the story of evolution on our planet.
